Top annoyances

So what is it that’s so annoying about neighbors? According to the survey, loud music is the worst offense, with Houston claiming the most neighbors guilty of this one. Houston also ranked high for loud parties.

Loud voices and parking issues are also top five annoyances, and Philadelphia took the top spot for both.

Dog mess, loud pets and “general grumpiness” are other grievances that big city residents have, with Detroit claiming No. 1 in the latter.

Airing it out

It seems many Americans are willing to air these grievances as well. More than half of those surveyed said they’ve confronted a neighbor about an annoyance. Those in San Antonio were the most likely to do so, with face-to-face being the most preferred method.

Residents in San Diego, Houston, Austin and Miami were also more likely to confront their neighbors, either face-to-face, through police, via a phone call or through a homeowner’s association or note on the door.
