The payoff amount on my closing disclosure from a new lender is over $2400 more than it should be. It appears I've been given no credit for my last two mortgage payments from my current mortgage company. I'm scheduled to close on Tuesday, and I won't be able to contact my mortgage company until Monday, plus their policy is not to give a payoff amount over the phone. I've informed my new lender of this discrepancy. I'm reluctant to close since I don't trust my mortgage company to correct the error and refund me the $2400 if my new lender uses the incorrect amount as the payoff. What should I do?
