My wife, a disabled veteran, and I are looking at buying land, with or without a home on it, and then purchasing a modular home to also go on the property. The plan would be then to either rent an existing home, or buy a small second home for her son. Is this an option with a VA Loan? Is it better to rent, or have him buy his home?

Hello Rodney,

I hope I understand your question. If you are asking if you can buy land and a manufactured home with a VA loan, the answer is yes. You cannot use a VA loan to buy a second home, only your primary residence. You can, however, purchase a multi-unit home, for example, a duplex, with a VA loan. That would give you two dwellings with one mortgage and no down payment. See this article for more:
